2026 Governing Body Update #3

Video Other languages Share text Share link Show times

Welcome to our program!
We have many interesting updates
on our work around the world
and some thoughts
about how we can use the coming months
to expand our ministry.
Soon the 2026
“Eternal Happiness” Conventions will begin!
It’s encouraging to see
many families and individuals
make arrangements
to attend the convention in person.
This is in harmony with Psalm 111:1,
which says:
“Praise Jah!
“I will praise Jehovah with all my heart
“in the assembled group of upright ones
and in the congregation.”
No doubt we all look forward
to seeing many of our relatives
and dear friends
as we worship Jehovah together.
This year’s convention
includes over 60 videos.
Much work goes into preparing
each part of the spiritual program,
including the music-video presentations.
These are an important part
of the convention.
They help us to prepare our minds and hearts
for the program to follow.
Let’s watch a preview of one of these videos.
We look forward to seeing
the six music-video presentations
prepared for this year’s convention.
So when the chairman invites us
to find our seats
because the program
will begin in five minutes,
let’s do so.
Then we’ll be ready to enjoy
the music-video presentation.
This will help all of us to benefit fully
from this valuable part of our conventions.
We know you enjoyed watching
Episodes 1, 2, and 3
of The Good News According to Jesus
video series
when they were released at the 2024
and 2025 conventions.
We’re pleased to inform you
that new episodes
of The Good News According to Jesus
will now be released
prior to each convention series.
Therefore,
the episodes for this year’s convention
—Episodes 4, 5, and 6—
are now available to view
on jw.org
and in the JW Library® app.
They’re being released initially
in some 250 languages.
As these episodes become available
in more languages,
they’ll appear in the “What’s New” section
of the website and app.
To download these episodes,
go to jw.org
or JW Library
and select “Library,” “Videos,”
“Dramas,” “The Good News According to Jesus.”
Of course, these videos will be featured
at our 2026 regional conventions.
Many of you may still choose
to wait until the convention
to watch these feature-length Bible dramas.
We leave this up to each family to decide.
This adjustment allows parents
to preview the content first
and then prepare their young children
for what will be shown at the convention.
We encourage parents
to read the Bible accounts together
with their children,
perhaps during a Family Worship session.
Please remind your children
that these accounts are recorded in the Bible
to show how Jesus
is far more powerful than the demons.
With Jehovah and Jesus on our side,
we have nothing to fear from wicked spirits.
The Good News According to Jesus
video series
provides an accurate depiction of events
as recorded in the Scriptures.
These Bible accounts are powerful,
and likewise, what’s depicted on-screen
will be powerful.
Much care has been taken
to ensure that the scenes
are not overly graphic.
At the same time,
we don’t want to water down the accounts.
We’re also pleased to inform you
that an updated
The Good News According to Jesus
—Video Reference Guide
will be released with the new episodes.
This publication enables you
to access video clips
of The Good News According to Jesus
directly from the study pane
of the Bible in JW Library.
If you need help using this publication,
you can find a tutorial video
by searching for “Video Reference Guide”
on jw.org.
Or you can ask a friend in your congregation
for additional assistance.
In the weeks leading up to the convention,
we’ll have a special campaign
to invite our neighbors and others to attend.
When we meet an interested person,
we can show the convention preview video.
What else can we look forward
to sharing in our ministry?
During the months of May and June,
we can use The Watchtower entitled
“Is Life Worth Living?”
Many of our neighbors
are facing traumatic situations.
Some may feel desperate and be without hope.
They may wonder if God really cares.
This Watchtower helps people to see
that Jehovah God does care
and life is worth living.
No doubt many will appreciate
hearing such good news.
Recently, the Governing Body
approved the purchase of a property
that will be used
as a Bible educational center in Denmark.
We are happy to announce
that on April 14, 2026,
the purchase was finalized.
It’ll be our second-largest school facility,
with six classrooms and 134 rooms
to house over 800 students each year.
It’ll also have a dining room,
kitchen, and recreation areas.
With Jehovah’s blessing on the project,
we hope to schedule classes
of the School for Kingdom Evangelizers
in Denmark later this year.
Now let’s discuss something
that has strengthened the faith
of our worldwide brotherhood:
the endurance of our brothers and sisters
in Russia.
It’s hard to believe
that it’s now been nine years
since the Supreme Court decision
that banned our worship in Russia.
Since 2017,
our brothers and sisters
have been actively persecuted
for simply meeting together, praying,
and discussing the Bible.
To help us grasp the scope
of what they have faced,
here are a few figures
as of April 27, 2026.
Over the years,
authorities have searched
more than 2,300 homes.
Criminal cases have been initiated
against over 950
of our brothers and sisters.
More than 450 brothers
and more than 60 sisters
have been imprisoned because of their faith.
Many others have endured house arrest,
payment of fines, and suspended sentences.
Currently, the maximum prison term
has been eight years.
Five of our brothers
are currently serving that sentence.
And one of our sisters
is currently serving a six-year prison term.
While we do not rejoice
that they’ve had to endure these experiences,
what have we consistently seen
during these nine years?
As our brothers and sisters
are released from prison,
it’s been wonderful to see
that they have not been conquered.
Again and again, as they’ve left prison,
we’ve seen their faith intact
and their trust in Jehovah undiminished.
For example, on April 7, 2026,
30-year-old Brother Danil Suvorov
was released after spending
more than four and a half years in prison.
When he was transferred to a penal colony,
his mother was able
to visit him every three months.
Friends also wrote to him regularly.
Danil explained:
“Through letters they encouraged me,
“and I encouraged others.
“It helped me to live, not lose heart,
“and stay occupied. . . .
I sent tons of letters home.”
On April 10,
Sister Olga Panyuta
was released
after spending more than three years
in a penal colony.
Prison conditions were especially harsh,
given her age.
She recalled
that her most difficult experience
was being placed
in a punishment cell for 14 days,
where it was very cold and uncomfortable.
Later, Olga was transferred
to strict confinement conditions.
Despite this,
Olga developed warm relationships
with other inmates.
They affectionately called her “Auntie Olya.”
Even prison staff
were surprised by how others treated her.
An officer once asked,
“How did it happen
that everyone came to love you?”
Others have shared
similar expressions of faith.
Brother Valeriy Rogozin,
who spent more than five years in prison,
said that letters from the brothers
were “like a breath of fresh air.”
He explained that with Jehovah’s support,
‘you can endure any situation.’
And then Sister Lyudmila Shchekoldina
was released
after nearly four years in prison.
She remained faithful
despite serious health challenges
and long delays in receiving medical care.
Lyudmila said:
‘I could feel that people around the world
‘were praying for me.
‘I had the strength to keep going,
‘I didn’t lose heart,
and I managed to hold on to my joy.’
It’s significant
that the unjust treatment
of our brothers and sisters in Russia
has been widely exposed
by major international authorities.
For example, in 2022,
the European Court of Human Rights ruled
that the ban was unlawful
and rejected the claim
that our worship is extremist.
Later that same year, the Council of Europe
urged Russia to comply
by ending criminal cases
and releasing those imprisoned.
More recently, in March 2026,
the United Nations Human Rights Committee
ruled against Russia
in a case involving publishers
whose homes were searched in 2018.
For the first time,
the Committee recognized
that Jehovah’s Witnesses
are a vulnerable religious minority
and confirmed that our brothers and sisters
have been discriminated against
because of their religious activity.
These decisions by international authorities
confirm that our worship is peaceful
and the charges are unjust.
That brings to mind a reassuring promise
found at Psalm 37:28:
“Jehovah loves justice,
and he will not abandon his loyal ones.”
The experience
of our brothers and sisters in Russia
over the past nine years
proves that Jehovah is keeping his promise.
He has not abandoned them.
As of April 27, 2026,
178 in Russia
remain imprisoned for their faith.
May we all keep praying
not only for our brothers and sisters
in Russia
but for all of the 277 brothers and sisters
around the world
who are imprisoned for their faith.
We know that in his due time,
Jehovah will bring true justice
throughout the earth.
We certainly appreciate those updates.
In addition to our upcoming conventions,
what else can we look forward to
in the next few months?
If you have time off in the coming months,
could you auxiliary pioneer?
Could you volunteer to work
on a theocratic construction project?
Some may be finishing their schooling
in the coming months.
Would it be possible for you
to apply to regular pioneer
or to serve at Bethel?
If you’re already regular pioneering,
could you apply to attend
the School for Kingdom Evangelizers?
Some may be able to preach
in seldom-worked territory.
There are so many
exciting opportunities to consider.
May Jehovah bless you
as you carefully analyze
what your circumstances may allow you to do
to expand your ministry in the coming months.
What have we discussed in this update?
We’ve considered
the “Eternal Happiness” Conventions
and the release of Episodes 4 through 6
of The Good News According to Jesus.
We’ve discussed expanded arrangements
for theocratic education in Denmark.
We’ve also reflected on the situation
of our dear brothers and sisters in Russia
over the past nine years.
We’ve seen how Jehovah is helping them
to be victorious despite persecution.
Their endurance strengthens our faith
and encourages us to remain loyal to Jehovah.
And as we consider the many opportunities
that are open to us in the coming months,
let’s be determined
to use our time, energy, and circumstances
to experience the joy
that comes from serving Jehovah fully.
And may Jehovah bless you all as you do so.
Brothers and sisters,
we love you all very much!
