How to Deal With Loneliness

Video Other languages Share text Share link Show times

Today, people are more connected,
but many still feel lonelier than ever.
When was the last time you felt lonely?
Did you or someone close to you
move far away?
Do you feel like others
are always having fun without you
or nobody really cares about you?
Loneliness hurts
—but feeling lonely doesn’t necessarily mean
something is wrong with you.
It might mean you need more interaction
with those around you.
This is better than isolating yourself.
The Bible says:
“Whoever isolates himself
pursues his own selfish desires.”
You can’t solve the problem
if you only focus on yourself.
So if it’s hard to connect to others,
you can do good things for people.
When you’re generous,
you’ll feel happy
and others will be drawn to you.
And don’t just focus
on how many friends you have
but what kind of friends they are.
Choose good friends!
Ask yourself:
‘Do my friends help me be a better person?’
Remember: Social media can never replace
face-to-face interaction with friends.
Does this mean
you have to be around people all the time?
No!
Sometimes you need alone time.
Use it to work on yourself.
What does that mean?
Eat healthy food,
get some exercise,
do something creative.
But what if you’ve tried all this
and still feel lonely?
Don’t give up!
If your feelings don’t go away,
talk to your parents about seeing
a health-care professional who can help.
The love of your friends and family
can help you work through negative thoughts.
You can also pray to God.
The Bible says he ‘gives those who are lonely a home.’
God cares about you
and will give you the emotional support that you need.
Nobody is immune to feeling lonely.
But when you care for yourself
and rely on help from others,
you can learn to deal with loneliness.
