00:00:01
“Deliverance”—what a beautiful word!00:00:06
00:00:06
According to one dictionary,00:00:08
00:00:08
it’s defined as “release from captivity,00:00:12
00:00:12
“slavery, oppression,00:00:14
00:00:14
or any restraint.”00:00:17
00:00:18
Well now, if we’re to keep our hope alive,00:00:21
00:00:21
if our hope is really to be00:00:23
00:00:23
‘an anchor for our soul,00:00:25
00:00:25
both sure and firm,’00:00:28
00:00:28
we have to have complete faith00:00:31
00:00:31
that our deliverance is coming.00:00:35
00:00:35
Now, that’s much more
than just looking on the bright side00:00:38
00:00:38
or hoping for the best.00:00:41
00:00:41
It means that we
actually can see in our mind00:00:45
00:00:45
the moment
when we are going to be delivered.00:00:49
00:00:50
Well, delivered from what,
set free from what?00:00:55
00:00:55
What do you long to be delivered from?00:01:00
00:01:00
Let’s talk about three things.00:01:02
00:01:02
Here’s the first one:
chronic illness00:01:07
00:01:07
—arthritis, diabetes,00:01:09
00:01:09
asthma, cancer, depression,00:01:13
00:01:13
multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease,00:01:17
00:01:17
the list just goes on and on.00:01:21
00:01:21
Some of these illnesses can make us feel00:01:23
00:01:23
like we’re prisoners within our own bodies.00:01:27
00:01:27
How can we cope with such chronic illness?00:01:31
00:01:31
Well, of course, we do what we can
to maintain our health00:01:35
00:01:35
and to try to preserve what health we have
and to improve it.00:01:39
00:01:39
But to keep our hope alive
and to keep our faith strong,00:01:44
00:01:44
we must be able to see
in our mind the day00:01:48
00:01:48
when we are going to be delivered,00:01:51
00:01:51
when we’re going to be rescued,00:01:53
00:01:53
by Jehovah God from that chronic illness.00:01:58
00:01:58
You know, the Bible has a beautiful account00:02:00
00:02:00
that brings this to mind,
that brings it to life.00:02:02
00:02:02
Let’s go to Mark chapter 5.00:02:05
00:02:06
And let’s go down here to verse 25.00:02:09
00:02:09
Now, you’ll remember this account.00:02:12
00:02:12
It says: “Now there was a woman
who had had a flow of blood for 12 years.”00:02:17
00:02:17
Now, that’s chronic illness.00:02:19
00:02:19
“She had suffered much
at the hands of many physicians00:02:23
00:02:23
“and had spent all her resources,00:02:26
00:02:26
“and she was no better00:02:28
00:02:28
“but, rather, had become worse.00:02:32
00:02:32
“When she heard the reports about Jesus,00:02:35
00:02:35
“she came up behind him in the crowd00:02:38
00:02:38
“and touched his outer garment,00:02:40
00:02:40
“for she kept saying:00:02:41
00:02:41
“‘If I touch just his outer garments,00:02:46
00:02:46
I will get well.’”00:02:48
00:02:49
Well now, this woman maybe sounds
like many of us00:02:53
00:02:53
who’ve been dealing
with chronic illness for many years.00:02:56
00:02:56
Maybe we’ve gone to every physician
whom we know,00:02:58
00:02:58
we’ve tried every possible
medicine or remedy,00:03:01
00:03:01
and yet, at the same time,
we’re maybe worse off than we first started.00:03:06
00:03:07
Well, in spite of all that, you see,
this woman had complete faith00:03:12
00:03:12
that the moment was going to come
when she was going to be delivered.00:03:16
00:03:16
And verse 29
just has this very interesting detail.00:03:20
00:03:20
Let’s read it:00:03:22
00:03:22
“And immediately her flow of blood dried up,00:03:26
00:03:26
“and she sensed in her body00:03:28
00:03:28
that she had been healed
of the grievous sickness.”00:03:33
00:03:33
Well now, what’s the point?00:03:35
00:03:35
You see, that moment did come.00:03:37
00:03:37
And the Bible says that
that woman sensed it;00:03:41
00:03:41
she sensed in her body that moment00:03:44
00:03:44
when her body had been healed,00:03:46
00:03:46
when that sickness was no more.00:03:50
00:03:50
Well now, here’s a question:00:03:52
00:03:52
Can you picture in your mind the moment00:03:56
00:03:56
when you will sense in your body 00:03:58
00:03:58
that you have been healed by Jehovah?00:04:01
00:04:01
See, that’s the moment
that we need to think about,00:04:05
00:04:05
that we need to meditate on,00:04:08
00:04:08
that we need to fill
our minds and hearts with00:04:11
00:04:11
because, brothers and sisters,
that moment is real.00:04:15
00:04:15
That deliverance is real,00:04:19
00:04:19
and it definitely is coming.00:04:21
00:04:23
Let’s go to a second one:00:04:25
00:04:25
These are painful memories.00:04:29
00:04:29
Now, it’s true,
many memories that we have00:04:31
00:04:31
are full of joy and happiness,00:04:34
00:04:34
and those happy memories can sustain us00:04:37
00:04:37
at difficult times in our lives.00:04:40
00:04:40
But the reality is, if we’re being honest,00:04:43
00:04:43
that many of us also cope
with painful memories.00:04:47
00:04:47
Look at the situation in the world today.00:04:49
00:04:49
We have devastating natural disasters,00:04:52
00:04:52
war, crime, violence,00:04:54
00:04:54
constant unrest.00:04:57
00:04:57
These things fill our earth.00:05:00
00:05:00
Well now, living through such events00:05:04
00:05:04
can leave us with painful memories.00:05:07
00:05:07
Now, for the most part,
maybe we do well00:05:10
00:05:10
and we can kind of keep
those memories at bay.00:05:14
00:05:14
But at times00:05:16
00:05:16
—perhaps just brought back
by some small event in life,00:05:20
00:05:20
some sight, some smell, some event—00:05:22
00:05:22
all of a sudden those memories
come flooding back.00:05:26
00:05:26
They fill our mind and our heart00:05:29
00:05:29
and take away our peace.00:05:32
00:05:32
What do we want?00:05:34
00:05:34
We want to be delivered
from those painful memories,00:05:39
00:05:39
not just for a short time,00:05:41
00:05:41
but we want those painful memories00:05:43
00:05:43
to be gone for good
so that they will never come back.00:05:48
00:05:48
Well, what’s the promise of the Bible?00:05:51
00:05:51
Let’s read it.00:05:52
00:05:52
It’s Isaiah 65:17.00:05:56
00:05:57
It says: 00:05:59
00:05:59
“For look!00:06:01
00:06:01
“I am creating new heavens and a new earth;00:06:05
00:06:05
“and the former things
will not be called to mind,00:06:10
00:06:10
nor will they come up into the heart.”00:06:14
00:06:14
Isn’t that wonderful?00:06:15
00:06:15
What a promise!00:06:17
00:06:17
You see, our minds and hearts00:06:19
00:06:19
will be completely healed by Jehovah God,00:06:22
00:06:22
so that those thoughts
will never come back again.00:06:25
00:06:27
Can you see
that moment of deliverance in your mind,00:06:32
00:06:32
that moment when those memories
will be gone forever?00:06:36
00:06:36
What an amazing moment to live for!00:06:39
00:06:40
Here’s the third one:
It’s sinful tendencies.00:06:45
00:06:45
At Psalm 51:5, David said:00:06:48
00:06:48
“Look! I was born guilty of error,00:06:51
00:06:51
and my mother conceived me in sin.”00:06:54
00:06:54
Well, that’s the reality
for all imperfect humans00:06:58
00:06:58
—we are born with inherited sin00:07:01
00:07:01
and an inclination to do what is wrong.00:07:05
00:07:05
Now, the apostle Paul described
the struggle that he had to face00:07:10
00:07:10
at Romans 7:21-23.00:07:15
00:07:15
Let’s read that together.00:07:17
00:07:17
Here’s what Paul said:00:07:20
00:07:20
“I find, then, this law in my case:00:07:23
00:07:23
“When I wish to do what is right,
what is bad is present with me.00:07:28
00:07:28
“I really delight in the law of God
according to the man I am within,00:07:33
00:07:33
“but I see in my body another law warring00:07:37
00:07:37
“against the law of my mind00:07:39
00:07:39
“and leading me captive to sin’s law00:07:43
00:07:43
that is in my body.”00:07:45
00:07:45
See, Paul says that there is a war00:07:48
00:07:48
that’s going on in each one of us00:07:50
00:07:50
between our love for Jehovah God
and his righteous standards00:07:55
00:07:55
and the sinful inclinations
that we have inherited.00:08:00
00:08:00
Well now, can we be delivered00:08:03
00:08:03
from inherited sin and this constant battle00:08:07
00:08:07
that’s in our mind and our heart?00:08:10
00:08:10
Yes.00:08:11
00:08:11
When the blessings of the ransom sacrifice
are fully expressed,00:08:16
00:08:16
those sinful inclinations
will be gone forever00:08:21
00:08:21
—no more war inside.00:08:24
00:08:24
Can you imagine the joy and the freedom00:08:27
00:08:27
that will come to all mankind at that moment?00:08:31
00:08:31
What an amazing time to live for!00:08:35
00:08:35
So—“deliverance”—what a beautiful word!00:08:39
00:08:39
But it’s not just a pleasant idea;00:08:42
00:08:42
it’s the reality that’s coming00:08:45
00:08:45
for each and every one of us.00:08:48
00:08:48
We want to constantly meditate00:08:51
00:08:51
on that coming moment of deliverance00:08:54
00:08:54
from chronic illness, from painful memories,00:08:58
00:08:58
from our sinful inclinations,00:09:00
00:09:00
and from so many other horrible things.00:09:04
00:09:04
What do you long to be delivered from?00:09:08
00:09:08
Well, whatever it is,00:09:09
00:09:09
remember that our deliverance is coming,00:09:13
00:09:13
and our deliverance is near.00:09:16

Mark Sanderson: Deliverance Is Near (Luke 21:28)
“Deliverance”—what a beautiful word!
According to one dictionary,
it’s defined as “release from captivity,
“slavery, oppression,
or any restraint.”
Well now, if we’re to keep our hope alive,
if our hope is really to be
‘an anchor for our soul,
both sure and firm,’
we have to have complete faith
that our deliverance is coming.
Now, that’s much more
than just looking on the bright side
or hoping for the best.
It means that we
actually can see in our mind
the moment
when we are going to be delivered.
Well, delivered from what,
set free from what?
What do you long to be delivered from?
Let’s talk about three things.
Here’s the first one:
chronic illness
—arthritis, diabetes,
asthma, cancer, depression,
multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease,
the list just goes on and on.
Some of these illnesses can make us feel
like we’re prisoners within our own bodies.
How can we cope with such chronic illness?
Well, of course, we do what we can
to maintain our health
and to try to preserve what health we have
and to improve it.
But to keep our hope alive
and to keep our faith strong,
we must be able to see
in our mind the day
when we are going to be delivered,
when we’re going to be rescued,
by Jehovah God from that chronic illness.
You know, the Bible has a beautiful account
that brings this to mind,
that brings it to life.
Let’s go to Mark chapter 5.
And let’s go down here to verse 25.
Now, you’ll remember this account.
It says: “Now there was a woman
who had had a flow of blood for 12 years.”
Now, that’s chronic illness.
“She had suffered much
at the hands of many physicians
“and had spent all her resources,
“and she was no better
“but, rather, had become worse.
“When she heard the reports about Jesus,
“she came up behind him in the crowd
“and touched his outer garment,
“for she kept saying:
“‘If I touch just his outer garments,
I will get well.’”
Well now, this woman maybe sounds
like many of us
who’ve been dealing
with chronic illness for many years.
Maybe we’ve gone to every physician
whom we know,
we’ve tried every possible
medicine or remedy,
and yet, at the same time,
we’re maybe worse off than we first started.
Well, in spite of all that, you see,
this woman had complete faith
that the moment was going to come
when she was going to be delivered.
And verse 29
just has this very interesting detail.
Let’s read it:
“And immediately her flow of blood dried up,
“and she sensed in her body
that she had been healed
of the grievous sickness.”
Well now, what’s the point?
You see, that moment did come.
And the Bible says that
that woman sensed it;
she sensed in her body that moment
when her body had been healed,
when that sickness was no more.
Well now, here’s a question:
Can you picture in your mind the moment

that you have been healed by Jehovah?
See, that’s the moment

because, brothers and sisters,
that moment is real.
That deliverance is real,
and it definitely is coming.

Isn’t that wonderful?
