Growing up,
I had little exposure to the Bible as a kid.
I didn’t really look at the Bible
as logical or scientific
or factual in any way.
From what I observed,
the Bible and religion
was all based on emotion, not fact.
So later, I went and got a degree
in ceramic engineering.
I graduated from college
and was living with some family members,
and I remember the Witnesses started a study
with these family members.
And I got to the point where I said,
“You know, you can interpret the Bible
any way you want to.”
And one of the family members said,
“Well, why don’t you join us
and show the Witnesses where they’re wrong?”
And I said, “All right, I will.”
I do remember staring at a scripture;
it was Psalm 37:29:
‘The righteous
shall live forever on the earth.’
I couldn’t think of any other
possible interpretation of it,
and that made it clear to me that the Bible
has some irrefutable points in it.
I wasn’t sure it was a fact yet.
That was a real big starting point for me.
I basically had to prove the Bible to myself.
So let me show you something
that convinced me
about the scientific support of the Bible,
and that’s Job 26:7.
It says: “He stretches out
the northern sky over empty space,
suspending the earth upon nothing.”
This was written almost 3,500 years ago,
and here it was penned in the Bible
that the earth is suspended “upon nothing.”
And it wasn’t till almost 300 years ago
that they actually understood that
—that the earth was held in place by gravity,
something that Newton talked about.
So this really convinced me
that the Scriptures
had some scientific support
—that and prophecy
(naming world powers by name)
and seeing the Bible in harmony
with itself from Genesis to Revelation.
As I kept putting all these pieces together,
over time it had a big impact on me
accepting the Bible as truth.
And applying it has made my life happier
and stable through these many years.
